I'm afraid today was another lazy day. Woke up at 7:50 (thanks a lot, great-aunt). Ooh, I just installed the latest version of Firefox, and me likey. Maybe even better than Google Chrome. Okay, back to my day. So, as I was saying, I woke up at 7:50 this morning. I ALWAYS get woken up by my phone in the mornings. I don't even have to ever set alarms. Either my mum, grandpa or great-aunt calls me somewhere between 7:30 - 8:30. I think I may have caught something, or maybe its just too cold. I'm feeling a bit sick. It's too cold at night even if I turn on the electric blanket like 3 hours beforehand. I have a permanent stuffed-up or runny nose. I think I prefer runny nose over stuffed-up. See how weird this post is? I've definitely got something. I know this sounds paranoid but I hope it isn't malaria. I got about 10 mosquito bites about 3 weeks ago (yup, Shanghai mosquitoes torment you even when it's like 13 degrees out). Okay, so its probably not malaria. But I have a sore-ish throat, runny nose, runny eyes too. I look like I've been crying. I hope no one finds out, because my mum and grandpa will absolutely kill me. Not to mention I don't want to be sick for America (13 days to go!). And my family swears that Shanghai gets much, much colder in January. No one even seems to mind the cold around here except for me. I guess they've seen worse.
I'm getting sidetracked again. Maybe because today was definitely not interesting. My great-aunt brought me Mcdonald's (spicy fried chicken burger, coke and chips) for brunch before we headed out for the subway station. Fries in China aren't seasoned in salt, instead you get tomato sauce. Which isn't too bad I guess. I can't wait to increase my culinary expertise in the field of Mcdonald's fries when I get to America. I'll have tasted Chinese, American and Australian fries. I took the subway alone to my great-aunt's university (she works as a school nurse). She wasn't working today but I went there to practise anyway. I usually go there about 1-3 days a week, and the other days I go to an old couple's home to practise. So that was very very interesting. Not. Caught the subway back home, went to 85 degrees (yay for the English-speaking employees and English menu) because I had 120 yuan in vouchers left (my uncle got them from work. They give employees holidays and vouchers in China instead of bonuses). I don't speak Shanghainese to them because I'm not sure how to translate drink names from English to Shanghainese, which could come out sounding a bit weird especially when there's already Chinese on the menu (which I can't read). I also went to a supermarket to buy a huge bottle of Tropicana. Which tastes pretty good.
Jeez, my blog is getting incredibly boring, even though I still enjoy writing the posts about...nothing. And this is meant to be a travel blog right now. I'll try and go somewhere exciting tomorrow.
PHOTO SWARM (seeing as I can't seem to write about anything interesting...):
The piano I practised on today. I think this may be my favourite out of all the ones I've played on in Shanghai. Note that there's no brand name on the piano. Yup, definitely dodgy.
Shanghai zoo has smart bears. Every single species of bear (except the polar bear) sits down in front of a railing where there's a lot of visitors and waits patiently for food.
This chicken is looking...cosy enough to fall asleep on its predator. That snake is so fat it doesn't even try to eat the three live chickens in its enclosure.
Pwetty clouds from the plane on the way here. I got an awesome seat (at the very front row of the plane with TWO windows and no one next to me).
